Revisions toRandall's Practical Guide to ISO 9000 |
After spending 2001 reviewing the ISO 9001:2000 standard, I
seriously question it's continued value as a quality standard. For this
reason I have notified my publisher that I do not intend to revise my
book. After performing several ISO 9001:2000 audits during the
time that followed, I have confirmed my initial conclusions. In my
professional opinion, I do not consider ISO 9001:2000 to be an adequate
quality standard for an industrialized nation. However, I
recognize that many readers / companies will transition to the ISO
9001:2000 standard. For those readers I have created an "ISO
9001:2000 Overview" page. I am also considering adding additional
"tips" for meeting ISO 9001:2000 on this web site.
Significant changes to content include:
Page 10
Noted that ISO 9000-2 was revised and re-issued in 1997
Page 11
ISO/DIS 9004-5 was adopted and formally issued as ISO 10005:1995
ISO/DIS 9004-6 is now ISO/FDIS 10006
ISO/DIS 9004-7 was adopted and formally issued as ISO 10007:1995
Page 12
ISO/DIS 10013 was approved and formally issued as ISO 10013:1995
ISO/DIS 10015, "Continuing Education and Training Guidelines" was
eliminated.

Removed all references to "stakeholder" in the sample quality manual.
Note:
References were made to "stakeholders" in the initial printing to maintain consistency with the guidance contained in ISO 9004:1994. ISO 9000 registrars are not requiring this reference and I personally disagree with the concept of addressing all "stakeholders" in a quality system. While stakeholders should be recognized by a business, I believe that the quality system should place primary emphasis on the customer.

Removed references to temporary employees.
Note:
Clarification regarding temporary employees is now provided on page 340.

Revised section on "Temporary Employees" to read:
Smart companies are calling on temporary agencies to provide basic training to these workers as a prerequisite for their business. Progressive temporary employment agencies have responded by viewing this as a competitive edge. Another benefit from this approach is the temporary agency becomes more inclined to send their client the same people the next time the client needs them. This allows the temporary agency to control the amount of training they are performing and provides the client with experienced workers. In the end, both have a win-win situation.

Noted that the NACCB has changed its name to the NACB, a division of UKAS.
There were no revisions to the second printing.
